I have my son signed up for the first week of residential camp at Camp Grey Squirrel. This will be his first time to go to an overnight camp. After hearing about the camp at one of our meetings, I felt this would be a good fit for him. We did our "sneak peak" last Friday. After the tour, I felt even more certain that this will be a great experience for him.
The residential camp will be at the Boys Ranch in Gore. It was not quite a 2 hour drive from Tulsa. It was such a pretty drive from Tahlequah. Fred and Daphne Hamon started the camp 2 years ago. This will be the 3rd year. The camp activities include equine assisted learning with the director of the Boys Ranch, swimming, arts and crafts, archery, hiking, puppet shows, games and the chance to experience summer camp in a safe and caring environment. The meals will come from Fin and Feather Resort and Soda Steve's. We tried out Soda Steve's for lunch. Logan and his friend, Ryan, gave it a thumbs up! I think the kids will be eating very well during their stay!
A youth mission group, Team Effort, will be helping with the camp so that each camper will be paired with a peer buddy with adult supervision. Fred told us that the youth come from all over to help specifically with this camp and that they really connect with the campers.
There are still several openings for camp. There is one spot remaining for Session 1 (June 6-9) and Session 2 (July 25-28) has several openings left. The day camps will be held at the United Methodist Circle of Care Children's Home in Tahlequah. For more information, contact Fred and Daphne Hamon at 918-457-1110.
