While I fully agree that Asperger's Syndrome is on the autism spectrum, I've enjoyed the liberty of being able to use the term "Asperger's" to describe my son's disability in a better way. You too?
None of us want to think that our child's label fully describes our child. They are so much more than their label. But if we are going to have a label, do you think "autism spectrum" is enough to fill your need?
I have been hearing of the updates to the DSM-5 for quite some time. What I've heard is this: they plan to take the Asperger's label out of the picture and focus on autism as a spectrum. The diagnosis would just be autism.
