Go Again

The book of Judges in the Bible is very interesting.  It is interesting because God's chosen people of the Old Testament (Israel) constantly was turning away to worship other gods, do all kinds of stupid stuff and then they would get a clue, ask for forgiveness, clean up their act and then do it all again.  Multiple of multiple of times.  So, what did God do?  Did He give them "x" amount of chances and then say "Really guys?  You have acted stupid, done all kinds of bad stuff, made terrible choices and you really expect me to let you start over again with me?...NOT A CHANCE...I'm done with had this many chances and you continue to turn your backs on me and do those stupid things so I'm done!"  Nooooooo....He didn't at all.  Every single time, He forgave, provided someone that had a clue to get them straightened out, and gave them a fresh start EVERY TIME.  And if you have not read Judges, let me share...they did lots of unholy, horrible stuff, not just small things and still, God gave them a fresh start, every time.  I love that, because that's a model of what we need to do (the "give the fresh start part"...not the "unholy stuff" part!)  I know there have been times on this journey with Asperger's that we have thought "really?  we've worked on that a million times...I think we are done with thinking this will ever change".  But guess what?  We have a model in a God who loves us so much that he doesn't have a number of times we can mess up and then He's done.  He does expect us to allow Him to change us, and for our own sake, get closer to what he has in mind for our lives, but he doesn't ever give up on us.  I would like us all to remember that model as the honeymoon of a new school year has worn off and we settle into a grind of school, etc.  We have kids that to the neurotypical world, "mess up" in multiple ways every day sometimes.  It is our job to help our kids learn - repeating the information as much as we need to, and not give up or allow a school, family or world to give up on our kids as well, or think they will only do this or that, and that's it.  God saw the amazing fact of Who would come from his chosen people, and indeed save the world for those who would believe.  That's a model to follow!  So, when we think it will never improve, change, get better, etc.  Think of the book of Judges, and roll up your sleeves and Go Again!

Let's go!
